Scary Movie 6

Scary Movie 6 is not for everyone, and honestly, that might be exactly why it works.

This movie feels made for the OG fans, the ones who grew up with the franchise, know the horror references, and appreciate when a joke goes completely off the rails. It is definitely not mainstream, but for horror fans, it is weirdly rewarding. The jokes that landed hit hard, and even when a few made my roll my eyes, I still found myself laughing more than I expected. I needed those laughs.

Getting the gang back together felt so good, and I am glad they made peace, especially with that ending bit that broke the fourth wall hard. The recycled jokes somehow still felt fresh, the fourth-wall breaks were ridiculous in the best way, and the whole thing had this chaotic energy that felt true to the franchise.

Editing this movie must have been extremely difficult. What do you keep? What do you cut? With a movie throwing this many jokes, references, shock moments, and random pivots at the wall, there were definitely a few things I personally would have left out. The blunt-rolling sex scene and the car “geyser” scene come to mind. But at the same time, that is exactly how this series rolls. Scary Movie 6 was not trying to play it safe. It was setting out to break boundaries, push buttons, and remind everyone why this franchise became so loved in the first place.

The cinematography was also pretty good, especially for a movie this ridiculous. It felt like a big production film, and there were tons of background jokes packed into scenes that made it fun to keep looking around the frame. A few different visual elements, like the on-screen texts, streaming references, and the K-pop musical moment, helped mix things up, and I was okay with the vibe shifts. They made the movie feel unpredictable in a way that fit the franchise.

The music and soundtrack were not especially memorable, but (SPOILER ALERT) the Ghostface dance scenes were pretty awesome. (END SPOILER) Some of music helped keep things moody, but this movie was never really about being truly suspenseful. It was about punchline after punchline, and on that front, it delivered. It takes risks, and I appreciated that, even when some of those choices were completely crazy. I was shaking my head a few times. Squeamish also. It is messy, loud, inappropriate, and absolutely not something you should watch on a plane. But for the right audience, Scary Movie 6 feels like a cultural reset and a future cult classic. Looking forward to Scary Movie 7 (please and thank you).

Not perfect, but very, very fun (and inappropriate).
