Digger… woah.

There is genuinely no way to write a review worthy of this film without diving into spoilers, so consider this your warning: this review is absolutely not for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

Seriously. Shield your eyes. Close the tab. Go watch the movie, process whatever the hell you just experienced, and then come back.

I’ll leave some space below for your safety.

Okay… if you’re still here, I’m assuming you’ve seen it. Let’s talk.

How many layers did this film have?

Digger is one of the most complicated, mind-bending black comedies I’ve seen in a while. What begins as something resembling a satire of modern society slowly mutates into a full-blown Black Mirror-level nightmare by the end. It’s trippy, unsettling, hilarious, and absolutely award-worthy. Even if it doesn’t become a massive blockbuster success, I can easily see this becoming a cult classic for years to come.

Bravo to Tom Cruise and the entire team behind this one. The performances across the board are fantastic, but several monologues stood out by a mile. Tom Cruise, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, and Jesse Plemons all get moments that completely command the screen.

At its core, the film holds up a very uncomfortable mirror to a society that most of us have, in one way or another, helped create. We allow ourselves to destroy the things we claim to love, then somehow find humor in the suffering once the consequences finally arrive. We blame the people in charge, laugh at the absurdity of it all, and yet often feel completely powerless to stop the systems we continue participating in.

That’s what makes the movie hit so hard. It feels like it’s laughing at us while simultaneously screaming at us. It’s pointing directly at the mistakes we’ve allowed to happen, the systems we’ve accepted, and the uncomfortable reality that recognizing the problem doesn’t necessarily mean we know how to fix it.

That’s it. Go see it.

A must-see for anyone who loves ambitious, strange, challenging filmmaking.

WOW. Level 4.
