The Mandalorian & Grogu

People are mean… that’s what I have to say about the haters, because this film rocks!

It feels exactly like what it was meant to be: a summer blockbuster with characters we love saying goodbye to a series we loved. It was action-packed, overloaded with cuteness, and had one of the best scores I’ve heard in a movie all year. Ludwig Göransson absolutely knocked it out of the park. Wow!

The cinematography was mostly gorgeous, too. I know certain scenes were probably handled by different teams, and at times I could tell some moments had more polish than others. Rotta the Hutt, for example, looked incredibly realistic in some scenes and a little rougher in others. I also noticed a few visual effects that didn’t feel as seamless, like the snow around the AT-AT’s feet. But overall, this is a gorgeous film. The solo Grogu scenes toward the end were genuinely some of the best moments in Star Wars cinema.

What I loved most was how much fun the film was. I’ve seen it twice, and honestly, the second viewing was even better. I found myself looking forward to certain sequences, and they felt even cooler the second time around. Next, I’m seeing it in IMAX, and I have a feeling I’ll catch even more details I missed during the first two viewings. I’m shocked by how much they fit onto the screen. There is so much detail packed into every frame.

The acting was good. Not great, but still very enjoyable. Some of the voices leaned a little too cartoonish for me instead of feeling like real beings or monsters, but overall, the cast was delightful. Martin Scorsese for example… love him, and the scenes were iconic, but would that creature really sound like that?! Also, something that stood out is that I could tell the difference between the stunt double’s body language and Pedro Pascal’s, but Pedro still brought great delivery both when he was on-screen and when he was doing voice work.

Overall, go see it in theaters before it’s too late! It’s a great film. It’s not serious like Andor, and honestly, I’m okay with that. Not every Star Wars story needs to be the same thing. Some fans just want to stir the pot, but I had a blast! So are a lot of people.
